Golf The silver coast boasts some of the best golf courses in Europe. Both the courses described below are about 20 minutes drive away.
Praia D'El Rey
This course has one of the most picturesque layouts in Europe, set in extensive grounds of pine forest and undulating dunes with spectacular views over the Atlantic and the Berlenga Islands beyond. The course is visually stunning and tremendously exciting to play. Because of the endless variations of the terrain you'll never play it the same.
Praia D'El Rey, has been rated 13th best course in Europe by Golf World magazine and has become one of the major golfing destinations in Europe.
Bom Sucesso
The Bom Sucesso Resort officially opened its golf course in September 2008, and is located near the medieval town of Obidos.
This 18-hole Championship Golf course is now open to the public. It is a PAR 72 golf course with an area exceeding 600 thousand m2; the first nine holes are played on a level part of the terrain, while the second nine are located on uneven terrain, and are therefore quite spectacular.
Water Sports
Surfing
The Atlantic rollers are a magnet for surfers. The beautiful Baleal beaches just north of Peniche are just one of the many surfing communities along this coast.
Scuba Diving
If you want to go Scuba diving then take a boat from the Peniche quayside, out to the Berlenga Islands where you can stay overnight at the old fortress (which is now a hostel). You can dive or simply snorkel around the caves and fantastic rock formations on this island.
Canoeing and boating
There are watersports at Tancos where you can canoe or safely swim on the River Tejo. There are also powerboat races to watch. Combine a visit here with a trip to Tomar; see the Out&About page.
Theme Parks & Tennis
The busy town of Nazare has a Water Theme Park just outside the town, as well as tennis courts. There is a cable car which will take you up the rock face to Siteo where the views are just spectacular.
Walking
Take the coast road north out of Nazare and you will come to mile upon mile of pine forests where you can picnic and walk through the woods that boarder this coastline. You will eventually come upon the little village of Sao Pedro de Moel which is well worth a visit. There is a wonderful restaurant there set into the rocks.
